History:

The frame and painting are in good condition. There is no apparent artist signature on the painting.
Notes: John W. Cockrill (1781-1840) was the second white child born in Davidson County. His mother was Ann Robertson Cockrill, sister of James Robertson. His father was John Cockrill. His parents were among the first large group of white settlers to arrive at Fort Nashborough, now Nashville. Ann and John Cockrill built the first brick house in Nashville in 1788.
