Portrait subject is an older, caucasian male wearing a dark jacket, white shirt and collar. The portrait was given by the family in 1925 to the State Library and it was accepted by John Trotwood Moore.

Newell Sanders was born and educated in Indiana. He came to Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1877. He was a manufacturer of agricultural implements and was on the Board of Directors for the Nashville, Chattanooga, and St. Louis Railroad. He served in the U.S. Senate 1912-1913. |
