History:

Portrait was purchased from the William Cooper Gallery in 1891. It has overall cracking of the paint and there is much overpainting.
Notes: William Blount (1749-1800) was the Territorial Governor of Tennessee 1790-1796. He had earlier served as a soldier. His home, Blount Mansion, is open to the public and is located in downtown Knoxville, Tn.
