Notes: Albert S. Marks (1836-1891) was born on Owensboro, KY. He moved to Winchester, TN in 1855 where he read law and was admitted to the bar in 1858. Though opposed to succession, at the out break of the Civil War, he joined the Confederate Army. He was wounded at the Battle of Stones River and subsequently lost his right leg. After his recovery, he served under Nathan Bedford Forest as Judge Advocate. He married Novella Davis of Wilson County in April 1863. He resumed his law practice after the war and was elected Chancellor of the Fourth Chancery Division. He was elected Governor in 1878. The most pressing problem of his term was the resolution of Tn's state debt. He declined the nomination for a second term. He was a delegate to the 1888 Democratic National Convention and died in Nashville November 1891.
