History:

Painting is signed by the artist in the right center section and has been placed in an oval frame.
Notes: General Charles G. Dahlgren (1811-1888) was a Philadelphia-born banker and business man who served as a brigadier general in the Army of the Confederacy. He married Mary Routh and after her death in 1858, he married Mary Edgar Vannoy of Nashville in 1859. See Record No. 1.870. He had a home in Beersheda Springs. He resigned from the Army in January 1862 and was appointed commissioner for gunboat construction along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
