History:

This portrait is of a man wearing a black jacket, a white, high-collared shirt. The canvas of the portrait is bucking and may have originally been rectangle. There is an oval stretcher crease visible on the canvas. On the back of the frame, there is attached a small piece of paper, circa 1920, with a typewritten message with information of the subject.
Notes: This information is from a note attached to the back of the portrait: William Hume 1770-1833 Born in Scotland; sent as minister to group of Scottish Presbyterians in Nashville, Tenn., in 1800. Married Rebecca Andrew in 1806. Devoted friend of Andrew Jackson. Purchased from George West.
