History:
|
This portrait was thought for many years to be the work of another artist, but when the painting was conserved in 1997, a signature was revealed. This portrait is thought to be the painting exhibited in Earl's museum on the Public Square and was used to persuade Andrew Jackson to sit for a similar portrait.See portrait 76.61.

Notes: |
Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) was one of the greatest military leaders in history. Rising through the ranks of an Italian army, he eventually became Emporer of France. He reformed the French government and was made "Consul for life." He crowned himself Emporer, but ended up exiled to a small island. |
