History:

Portrait was purchased by the TN Historical Commission and presented to the state at ceremonies in April 1947.
Notes: Prentice Cooper (1895 - ) was born near Shelbyville, TN and educated at Vanderbilt and Princeton Universities and received his law degree from Harvard Law School. He served in World War I and organized and served as attorney for the Duck River Electric Membership Corporation (TVA). He served in the State House of Representatives (1923), in the State Senate (1937), and as Governor of TN (1939-45). Cooper went on to serve as Ambassador to Peru (1946-48) and was President of the Constitutional Convention in Nashville (1953).
