History:

The subject is shown in full profile. He is dressed in a black coat and a has on a white ruffled shirt. This portrait is very similar to 1.897. However, the hair has a different pattern than this one, but the subject is posed in the same position and the clothing details are also similar.
Notes: John Haywood (1762-1826) immigrated from North Carolina about 1807 where he had studied law and served as Solicitor General, Attorney General and Judge of the Superior Court of North Carolina. He went on to served as Justice of the Tennessee Supreme court (1816-1826), was the first president of the TN Antiquarian Society and was the earliest known TN historian. He wrote The Natural and Aboriginal History of Tennessee and The Civil and Political History of Tennessee.
