History:

Portrait was donated by a great-great-great granddaughter of the subject. There is some loss to the surface in areas of the tie, the green drape, the cheek and bridge of the nose of the subject's face and in the blue background. There is also evidence of inpainting on the side of the coat.
Notes: William Gibbes Hunt was a founding partner of the Nashville Banner and Whig in 1826 where he also served as editor. In 1831, this newspaper became the National Banner and Nashville Advertiser Hunt was from Boston, MA. From there he moved to Pulaski, TN.
