This portrait is of a man facing front wearing a black coat and cravat with a white shirt. The background is dark and the artist signiture is in the lower right corner. George Welllington Churchwell (1802-1864) practiced law in Knoxville, TN for 35 years. In 1825, he married Rebecca Evelyn Montgomery. He represented Knox and Roane Counties in the General Assembly, 1835-1837. He was a member of the State Democratic Excutive Committee in 1852.
