Description:Waist-length of a woman in a white high-collared dress trimmed in light blue. Her light auburn curls are piled on her head. Hands gathered in her lap, but not visible.
History of Work:"Prepared by F.W. Devoh & Co." printed on reverse. Family lore has it that the painting was altered to hide the subject's decolletage.
Notes:Subject was born 1/26/1826 and died 11/1/1897. She was married to Alexander Robert Lawton who was Minister to Austria. Source: The Alexander Letter from 1787-1900, 2002 ed.
