Description:Full-length profile portrait of an older woman sitting in a wicker chair at a small table to her right. Her gray hair is pulled back in a low bun and she is wearing silver glasses. Her long black dress has white ruffling around the neck and sleeves. A red shawl is on the chair behind her. Her proper right hand rests on top of papers on the table and her left hand is placed in her lap. Plain dark background.
History of Work:Signed: LR: Carl Gutherz W.D.C. 1900. The artist lived and worked in Memphis ca. 1860-1875. Painted while the artist lived and worked in Washington D.C. from 1896 to 1907. Painted after a photograph.
