| Description: | Frame
is rectangular stamped metal over wood. An appropriate frame for the time it
was painted, but not the original.
Gauzy, light brown treatment of a young
woman in a simple v-neck cream dress. Her light brown hair is pulled up and
has a loose quality. |
| History: | Painted
in Philadelphia. This is a copy of Malbone's miniature ca. 1803 which was
Frances Wade's engagement picture. This miniature passed down to Cushman's
granddaughter, who gave it to a friend, who sold it to Ed Sheppard in 1995.
Frances Bleecker went on to have nine children. The Malbone miniature
was in Philadelphia ca. 1896 and a color picture of it was used as the
frontispiece of Anne Wharton Hollingsworth's book "Heirlooms in
Miniature."
Exhibited at Huntsville 1996; Gibbes 2000.
Illus in Huntsville catalog/American Art Review, Vol. VIII, No. 1,
