| Description: | Older
man with short silver hair falling just over his ears. His eyes are blue, and
he is wearing a black coat and vest with a white shirt and tie. Only his right
hand is visible, and it holds a cane with "(?). B." engraved on its
metal top. |
| History: | Found
rolled in a trunk in 1975-76. It was probably painted in Tennessee or
Virginia. In extremely poor condition when found. Restored in 1977 by Okarma
Jones, an Atlanta firm recommended by the High Museum. They "melted it
onto a new canvas" and provided 25-30% infill painting. |
| Notes: | Subject
married Elizabeth S. Davis Nov. 26, 1838 in Albermarle County, VA. They moved
to Woodland Mills, TN, 3 miles north of Union City. Owner is not certain of
