Description:Half length portrait of a man, angled left, with dark brown side swept hair. He is wearing a formal white shirt and vest, with his collar turned upward, and a black coat and black neck tie. Plain dark background.
History of Work:Unsigned. Artist lived and worked in Memphis 1846-1853. Kept a studio there through the 1880s after relocating to Nashville. Portrait is painted after an earlier miniature.
Notes:Sitter is Memphis Brooks Museum of Art founder.
