| Description: | Oval full frontal of a young woman with blue eyes and auburn-brown hair that is parted in the middle and cascades onto her shoulders in soft ringlets. Her face is heart-shaped and she is wearing a white dress with a soft rectangular widely-cut neckline. The dress is simply gathered at the waist by a light blue sash, approx. 2-3 inches wide. A matching light blue shawl is most visible on her left arm. |
| History: | Probably painted in Richmond, Virginia, this is likely the daughter of the man in portrait #358, Mr. Brown. On the reverse is a piece of paper, apparently contemporary, with the inscription written in brown ink: "Mifs J.C. Brown Painted by P.A. Peticolas and put under glafs February 11th 1832 Nashville Tennessee."
Exhibited at Gibbes 2000. |
