| History of Work: | This portrait was commissioned by the Vanderbilt Board of Trust in 1948 and acquired in 1949. |
| Notes: | Oliver Carmichael served as Chancellor of Vanderbilt University from 1937 - 1946. For two years previous, he had served as Dean of the Graduate School and Senior College. Carmichael Towers, East and West (dormitories), are named in his memory.
