| History of Work: | Very similar to Portrait #973 of same subject by same artist. Some difference in color of suit, tie, and in book arrangements on the desk. |
| Notes: | Subject born in Tullahoma, Tennessee on June 2, 1882. He was the son of Maclin Hezekiah Davis and Christina Lee Shoffner. He graduated from Webb School and Stanford University. He worked in Havana, Cuba after graduating from college. Later he settled in Nashville, Tennessee where he married Augusta Dickel Shwab. He was very active in the real estate, insurance and banking business, serving as President of First American Bank, where he served as President (and controlled) during the 20s, 30s,40s, and 50s. Subject died in 1969.
