| Description: | Waist-length
nearly frontal of a man with white hair and a receding hairline. Soft curls
are prominent on the center of his forehead. He has wide set large blue eyes,
and is dress in a black coat and white shirt and necktie. A gold
diamond-shaped object is just above the waist. |
| History: | Family
lore has it that this is a copy of a portrait by Ralph E.W. Earl, and that
the artist worked from the original. The original by Earl was supposedly in
the Tennessee State Museum collection and was destroyed by fire, but this
seems not to be true since the museum collection has not endured a fire,
especially since 1931, the date of this work.
Work was
restored by Sandor Bodo ca. 1991-92 who said that cheap paint of the
Depression Era has caused bubbling and was prone to scratches.
