| Description: | Three-quarter left profile of a blue-eyed man with fine dark aurburn hair that forms two small wispy curls near his forehead hairline. Dressed in a creme ruffled shirt, his top coat has 4 and one-half buttons showing. |
| History of Work: | The original of this portrait, painted by Ralph E. W. Earl, is one of a number stolen from Cleveland Hall, Easter weekend, 1986. This version was painted by Calvert (same family as below) from a print made from a 1907 negative shot by another Calvert (Nashville photographer). |
| Notes: | Subject lived from 1805-1888. He was the son of Capt. John Donelson III and Mary Purnell. He married Phyla Ann Lawrence (see companion portrait # 757).
