| Description: | Painting depicts the bay stallion Epsilon facing right with short white socks on all but his front right leg. Epsilon is standing in a field, in the background there are barns at center right. The sky is pale cream, and the foreground is pale cream, green, and brown. |
| History of Work: | Frame is giltwood molding. From the Estate of William H. Jackson Gibbon De Lattre was a French artist born in 1801 He was known best for his animal paintings, especially that of horses. He worked for Currier and Ives during his first of two trips to the US; his second trip the US (1850-1856) he contracted himself out to do private works. It was during this second trip, that his painting of Epsilon was done. |
| Notes: | Epsilon was a bay stallion sired by Pacific out of Madam Bosley. He is thoughts to be the first sire that William Giles Harding acquired after moving back to Belle Meade Plantation in 1839. Location: West Side Hall |
