Description:Dressed in his customary morning suit with tails, Dr. Fowle is posed with great dignity and power that characterized his being. Large, gentle hands and slight smile demonstrate the kindness he exercised.
History of Work:
Notes:10th pastor, Dr. Fowle came to Chattanooga in April 1929 to accept pastorate with his wife Katherine Ferguson and daughter Mary Payne Fowle. Formerly he served at General Presyberterian in St. Louis where he had gone after graduating from Princeton Theological Seminary, Union Theological Seminary, and completing graduate studies at Johns Hopkins. He had also served as a pastor in Virginia, West Virginia, and Texas. His father was Samuel Richardson Fowle and his mother was Mary A. Payne of North Carolina. Dr. Fowle was Pastor from 1929-1967 - 38 years.
