with dark straight hair parted in the center and pulled back under a lace
bonnet that is tied under her left chin. She also has a lace collar on her
black dress. Her eyes are dark in color. The overall tone of the portrait is
dark in hue and the frame is decorated with garlands of fruit and flowers for the Christmas season, a tradition the owners keep. |

| Notes: | Subject
(1779-1859) was married to John Gordon, "Captain of the Spies" for
Andrew Jackson. When he was in Florida with Jackson, Dolly managed their
trading post on the Natchez Trace. Their residence on the Trace, known as
"Gordon House," is still there at mile marker 407.7. John Gordon was also the first postmaster in Nashville.
