Description:Dark-haired gentleman with greying at the temples and piercing blue-grey eyes. Wearing a black suit, white shirt, and black tie at neckline. Left hand is resting on a cane.
History of Work:James Westhall Ford, 1805-1866, prominent American portrait painter in Virginia and friend of Thomas Jefferson.
Notes:Subject born at Marrowbone Plantation, Henry County, Virginia, 27 November 1784. Married to Louisa Hardyman in 1811. They were married at Greenway, the home of Judge John Tyler in Charles City County, Virginia. George Hairston II died 13 October 1863 at Hordsville Plantation in Henry County, Virginia and is buried there. His parents were George Hairston (the first), b. 1750, d. 1827, and Elizabeth Perkins Letcher, b. 1759, d 1818.
