Description: Oval bust-length portrait of Howell E. Jackson’s first wife Sofia as a woman with brown hair pulled back and parted in the center, wearing a black dress with lace collar.
History of Work: Frame is a giltwood and gesso molding with label verso, “Butler Picture Frame of New York.”

The artist John Insco Williams lived between the years of 1813-1873.
Notes:First wife of Justice Howell Jackson. She died in 1873.
