Description:Frontal bust portrait of a pale young woman. She has brown hair parted down the middle, with ringlets reaching just past her bare shoulders. Plain dark mottled background. The frame encloses the portrait in an oval shape.
History of Work:Signed: written on verso of original canvas: TS 1845
Notes:Sitter was born and lived in Memphis. Daughter of John Pope, a prominent Memphis cotton merchant. The portrait was painted in NY after Louisa Pope's marriage to Wylie Miller of New York City.
