| History: | Work was done from a daguerreotype photograph and painted by the subject's granddaughter. |
| Notes: | Sitter was born 2/2/1808 and died 6/2/1860. He took the name of his county (Bertie in NC) and married Judith Bell Estes in 1840. He is the owner's great-grandfather. The portrait normally resides at their Brownsville farm.
