Description:Three-quarter length portrait of a man seated in a wood chair. His legs are crossed with his body angled to his right. He is balding with gray hair and a gray mustache and his hands are folded in his lap. To his right is a wooden desk with books and papers.
History of Work:Signed: LR: Carl Gutherz WDC 1897. The artist lived and worked in Memphis ca. 1860-1875. Painted while the artist lived and worked in Washington D.C. from 1896 to 1907. Morgan was the uncle of the artist's wife.
