Description:Three-quarter length portrait of woman slightly angled to the right. She is dressed in a black cloak and black top hat with maroon fabric accenting the neck clasp, shoulder, and brim of the hat. The woman is wearing brown gloves and carrying a bow in her proper left hand. Mottled dark background.
History of Work:Signed: LL: K. A. Carl. Artist was born in Memphis and returned periodically in the late 19th century.
Notes:Sitter is Memphis Brooks Museum of Art founder, painted before her marriage to Samuel Brooks.
