Description:Three quarter length portrait of seated Frank Armstrong Crawford (Mrs. Cornelius) Vanderbilt wearing a black dress with a red rose or camellia attached. Her gloved right hand rests on her bare left hand.
History of Work:Gift to University by Robert L. Crawford, brother of Mrs. Frank A. Crawford Vanderbilt.
Notes:Frank Armstrong Crawford was named before she was born for her parents best friend. Orginally from Mobile, AL, she and her mother moved after the Civil War to NYC, where she met and married recently widowed, Cornelius Vanderbilt, her first cousin, twice removed.
