| History of Work: | Portrait came to the University in 1973 as a gift from William H. Vanderbilt III, great grandson of William H. Vanderbilt. |
| Notes: | William Henry was the fourth of thirteen children and the eldest of four sons born to Cornelius and Sophia (Johnson) Vanderbilt. He had continuing interest in the University which his father had founded providing funds for three new buildings for the campus in 1880.
