History of Work:James Westhall Ford, 1805-1866, prominent American portrait painter in Virginia and friend of Thomas Jefferson.
Notes:Subject was born 23 July 1816, married Louisa Hardyman Hairston 17 September 1844 and lived at Shawnee Plantation in Henry county, Virginia. He died at Shawnee Plantation 17 February 1890.
